Wholesome Addiction Thinks I’m Hot… and the Feeling is Mutual!

So here’s a pretty awesome and inspiring counterargument to those who assert that Twitter is just an echochamber with no useful returns for authors.

I check Twitter a couple times a week or so, and the other day I noticed I’d been tagged by Wholesome Addiction, a podcast about sex, porn, and erotica which I hadn’t heard of before. I was a little flabbergasted, because they hadn’t contacted me that they’d be talking about my story, Wolf Moon: Redd’s First Ride, and I had no idea this was happening. Apparently, they’d just found me on Twitter and thought my work looked interesting. They bought some of it on Smashwords, and that was that — lust at first read! Hey, I aim to please, and I’ve never been accused of being an underachiever by any means.

Anyway, I took a listen to the episode and I was really humbled and flattered. They had a lot of great things to say, and from their feedback I really feel that I accomplished what I set out to do when I wrote it — to create an interesting alternate universe filled with hot sex, intrigue, and a plot that leaves you wanting more. Redd’s First Ride is part one in a four-part serial, with the other three parts arriving later this year. Once all is said and done, it will total 40-50,000 words and will be released as a set.

Here’s the segment: Wholesome Addiction Cast 28 Clip: Lula Lisbon

I’ve got to say, these guys are funny, interesting, and love sex as much as I do! Well, almost — I’m pretty insatiable, just ask one of my ladyfriends! 😉 I want to thank them effusively for finding and featuring me. I’m really honored that they chose to do this segment on my writing. I look forward to future collaborations — which might just be in the works as we speak…

Book Tour Stop and Review of Say Please: Lesbian BDSM Erotica

Welcome to the Say Please: Lesbian BDSM Erotica virtual book tour, and thanks so much for stopping by!
I first contacted Sinclair Sexsmith, editor, author, and blogger, to inquire whether they’d review some of my own erotica titles, and they very kindly included me in the Cliterotica Winter 2012 roundup on Lambda Literary. Checking back to their blog, Sugarbutch, soon afterwards, I saw a call for host blogs for the tour and was immediately interested. Kinky queer BDSM is my favorite, after all, and since I missed the call for submission — I’m just starting my published writing career — I wanted to do something to help out.
In addition, I recently had the pleasure of meeting Sinclair and their partner Kristen at the NYC book release party, as well as several of the other authors included in this anthology. Aside from being wonderful writers, I was very happy to discover that they are all very sweet people as well! I’m very much looking forward to getting together with them all again soon.
Anyway, without further ado…
I’ll be the first to admit that of all the myriad sub-genres of erotica, lesbian BDSM has long been the favorite on my list, first as a reader, and now as an erotica writer myself. When I saw the call for the blog tour, I knew that I had to be on it, as I’d missed the call for submissions. Given the choice between an ebook and a print version, I gleefully chose the paper version; I don’t have an ereader, but besides that, there’s just something about a hard copy of dirty stories, like the Nancy Friday books I read to tatters ages ago, that makes me feel so deliciously naughty.
I dipped into Say Please: Lesbian BDSM Erotica almost as soon as I ripped open the paper shipping envelope, taking the burgundy-carpeted stairs to my third-floor walk up two at a time. I only had a bit of time before work, but I devoured the first few stories right away; I like to tease myself sometimes by deliberately getting turned on right before I have an engagement elsewhere. The things a single girl has to do! I finished the book on a bus trip, relishing the public debauchery of it, like eating a whole cake in front of starving orphans. If I were a queen, I’d be beheaded for this.
As much as I honor print books, I just had to mark the stories that I particularly relished; they number nine in total. I know it’s a thing, a popular thing apparently, but I just can’t get into anything where they use the word “Daddy” — it’s just a huge personal turn-off. On the other hand, “Sir,” packing, spanking, and cruel-yet-loving D/s really gets me going.
I was surprised to see that the majority of stories were in first person. One notable exception, which was a favorite of mine, was The Keys, by Anna Watson. While so many of the other stories had levels of love and commitment, even romance in the midst of pain, this one was straight-up smut. The writing conveyed a feeling of seediness which enhanced the plot, and I thought it was a bit of genius to have a dolphin trainer playing with water sports. The Keys was a story which, in an alternate kinky universe, you could take in an English class and break down to see all how all its glittering parts reflect the larger picture.
One excerpt from another story that will stay in my head (and other, lower regions) for a very long time is this amazing passage from Strong, by Xan West:

It’s a rule of mine. When she’s my girl, she is required to keep her thighs apart. They never touch in my presence. It makes her constantly aware of her body, the position she’s in. She is always conscious of her cunt. Exposed just by her own awareness. With this one simple rule, I claim ownership of her body, her cunt, her focus. From across the room I am inside her, spreading her thighs, exposing her cunt, deep inside her head.

I’m not ashamed to admit that this is something I’m going to have to incorporate into my sex life and I’m slightly annoyed I never thought of it before myself! Erotica is of course all about getting into the mind, and this illustrates my point beautifully. The elegance with which the author has the genderqueer submissive submit first as a girl, then seamlessly as a boy was a joy to read. I’m looking forward to reading more by Xan.
In Gigi Frost’s Housewife, 1950’s gender roles are subverted and turned into pleasure for two role-playing lovers. There is love here, and concern for each other; and cruelty is kindness when it’s so lusciously consensual.

Last night, lying with my head on her shoulder, she told me about her childhood fantasies, rescuing princesses and then ravishing them.

“The princess really wants you to fuck her, but you sort of have to make her,” she said.

I love being her princess.

I’ve had those fantasies, too – just from the other side! The writing was juicy, hot, and was vivid in my head. The only complaint I had with this one was that it’s too short, and I wanted to get to know the characters better.
To me, BDSM is most appealing when it’s so beautifully integrated with love and romance that there is no discernible place where one stops and the other begins. So it is with editor Sinclair Sexsmith’s Not Without Permission. The love and respect each has for the other is beautiful to see on the page, and while the sex is very, very hot, I think that’s the part that really does it for me. Coming on command is such a sexy thing, but it’s the most meaningful and powerful when emotion is involved.  The writing was evocative, easily painted in my mind’s eye, and I really cared about the characters. Another one that I wished was longer!
Say Please: Lesbian BDSM Erotica is a great look into contemporary erotica. The variety of themes and plots was interesting enough to not be repetitive, yet they flowed together beautifully. This is definitely a book you’ll want to keep on your nightstand to keep coming back to, again and again… and you don’t even need my permission.

Say the magic word and fulfill your deepest desires for discipline and surrender, domination and submission, and the heightened sensations of BDSM play. One request opens up a fantasy world of classic dungeon scenes, bondage and restraint, floggers and spankings, sadism and masochism, very hot sex and so much more. True to form, Sexsmith queers classic gender dynamics, with a femme daddy in Alysia Angel’s “Feathers Have Weight,” and genderqueer bois who earn their right to flag black in Sassafras Lowrey’s “Black Hanky.” In “The Cruelest Kind,” Kiki DeLovely’s naughty narrator gets her just desserts from her butch in a back alley. D.L. King’s top makes her submissive strip before an unseen audience in “A Public Spectacle.” Face slapping can be a hard limit or the most delicious craving, as Rachel Kramer Bussel’s protagonist finds out in “A Slap in the Face.” Whether you dream of surrendering to a lover or of weilding your power, Say Please to the erotic inspiration within.
